LOVE FROM LONDON -

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO JAY

Heaven is a place on earth

The universe is always giving you clues. Marking the trail with breadcrumbs the ones you put there before you came. We don’t always see them and sometimes even when we do, we explain them away with logic, happenstance or just plain ignore them.

The longer you do that after you are aware the louder and more obvious they become. It is you shouting at yourself.

You do always have a choice, in fact you could sleep through the whole thing just like the mouse in the teapot at Alice’s tea party but aren’t you just a little bit curious?

Last night I spent hours of frustration trying to get to a nightclub called “Heaven”. Some of the people I was with left to go to Heaven without me. I stayed with the others who were still finishing their drinks and enjoying their conversations. I was feeling a little guilty that we should all be going together at the same time. Why wasn’t anyone else concerned? Why were they so relaxed, standing there drinking and talking! An hour passed… Another half an hour…

By this time it was quite late, after twelve, we still had to walk across town to get there. In fact we didn’t really even know quite how to get there because no one had actually been there before. Adam sent a message from Heaven because he was already there to ask when we were coming. Half way there every other person besides one decided it was too late and that they were going to catch the train home.

Jason and I walked across town or should I say meandered and finally found Heaven! Except it wasn’t. It wasn’t Heaven at all, it looked like Heaven, it had the same name as Heaven… only thing is, it wasn’t… it was G.A.Y! Which was the only address on the flyer, the true “Heaven” (a very friendly man in the queue called Ben told us) was run by the same company and is across town in a different direction. A little despondent we started walking towards it. I said to Jason that he could bail, but he stayed, we stopped and I got over charged for a Falafel but at least it came with chips. Hot chips for Jason! We found Heaven! again… This time for real but the line was so extraordinarily long, it snaked around a fence and back again, which would have meant at least an hour wait according to the bouncer so we decided against it. Heading back for the train station I thought well at least this will be straight forward and told Jason, I will be fine you go on home, but he insisted on walking me to the station. We were so distracted talking that we must have taken a wrong turn. Suddenly we realised that we were nowhere near the train station and I mean nowhere near. God knows where we were! But we still didn’t!

We had to go halfway back, retracing our steps (however this time noticing where we were) to find the right path. It was almost half past two. It’s the first time I have ever used the night train so that was wonderful. I was excited to get home and have the blissful feeling of taking off my shoes. I had spent a lot of the night frustrated I wasn’t getting to where I thought I should be going. To a place it was expected I was supposed to show up. I was acutely aware of all the social graces I expected myself to keep. I waited for other people, waited for their go ahead essentially stopping myself from going when I wanted to move on, instead of allowing myself to leave. When things did not go as planned later, I was pulled off my path by distraction and my own lack of focus. (I mean we both looked at maps! Blue dot, red dot, how hard could it be?) My frustration lessened and in the end I just enjoyed the ride and started being a tourist. I even took a late night snap of my tour guide at the point we realised “finding” anywhere that night was an epic fail and discovering was the only option.

We had been searching, on a quest and what I found was a profound message to myself. That the path to “Heaven” is not a linear one, you will be pulled off your path, purpose, distracted, forced to problem solve, learn what drives you, motivates others, discover your desires, stumble over your weaknesses, know to appreciate the sweet stuff and the drama, realise some people share some of the journey with you, others only drop in, some will never leave your side; and the silent ones who are always watching will be dropping breadcrumbs waiting for you to notice that “Heaven” is not a place with line and a cover charge it is where you are already standing. How you perceive it is up to you, enjoy the ride! xx

Thank you to my tour guide Jason
