LOVE FROM LONDON -

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO JAY

The Great Divide

Fallen crown still tethered to the crest

Lions roar rebuked the rest

Calling out the great divide

Revealed the score

a nations pride

Lions roar rebuked the rest

Calling out the great divide

Reveals the score

A nations pride

Liars, thieves, strategic press

paints people in percentages

False freedom unfurls the flag

Deep held fears

Unicorn is tied and gagged

Rule Britannia set sail on seven seas

Excellent search for hidden key

Independence only just begun

Inner journey

your sovereign state of one

I wrote this poem the day I found out that the UK had voted to leave the EU, Brexit.

I have never put an explanation for any of my poems, I feel to do that takes away from the readers engagement with the piece. The original intent which is mine is not relevant to the reader.

I love that anyone who reads verse has their own experience, emotions evoked, much like a song.

I wrote this poem in 2016 and I sit here in 2020 reminded of the line 'the great divide'

This phrase was repeating all day in the background till I remembered the source.

This phrase was repeating as I saw on social media how the last few months of isolation has created a divide. Fear has polarised us in a way that people can not have a conversation without making someone wrong.

Fear has stolen peoples safe space and made new boundaries for themselves and for the collective.

It is the first time I have really seen others so vehmentally want to control each other.

A pack mentality has emerged.

Solidarity has now become licence to keep us compliant.

not to ask questions

not to ask why

is this because we are exhausted of living in fear

tired of not knowing what is coming?

whe want someone to take care of us?

tell us what to do?

I thought that we should take responsibility for ourselves.
